blissful vacation

When you prepare for your next trip, pack these tried-and-true natural remedies and avoid common travel maladies.

Melatonin. Take three milligrams before your new bedtime. Place a pillow and blanket on the plane and take your melatonin about 20 minutes before you’re ready to snuggle in. This can help you to acclimate to new time zones.

Probiotics. Take two capsules a day, starting two days before your departure and continuing throughout the trip. Probiotics help fight the “bad” bacteria that cause travelers’ diarrhea.

Ginger. If you’re susceptible to motion sickness, pack ginger. Capsules containing the powdered form help, but you can also take a few crystallized ginger candies before a boat ride or long car trip.

cancer and diet

It has been estimated that 35% of cancers are related to dietary factors – both in what you eat and in what you don’t eat. This is even more than the contribution of tobacco to cancer, which is estimated to be a causative factor in 30 percent of cancers. The following foods have been linked to cancer, and according to Integrative Physician Dr. Stefanie Stevenson, limiting these foods as much as possible is recommended.

Foods to Avoid:
1. Red meat (beef, pork, lamb, goat).
2. Meat cooked at high temperatures (creates harmful chemicals like heterocyclic amines)
3. Processed meats (examples are hotdogs, lunch/deli meats, bacon, sausage)

In contrast, the following foods are protective and should be eaten daily:
1. Fruits and Vegetables. The pigment of these foods provides beneficial antioxidants and phytonutrients. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. It is the free radical that when left unchecked causes damage to a cell, which is the first step in the development of cancer.
2. Other foods of plant origin. In addition to the fruits and vegetables, include unprocessed whole grains and legumes.
3. Plant based foods contain important antioxidants. Some examples of antioxidants and a representative food are the following:

Anthocyanins (blueberries); isoflavones (soy); lignans (freshly ground flaxseeds); quercetin (apples); catechins (green tea); resveratrol (purple grapes); lycopene (tomatoes); lutein (spinach); alpha and beta carotene (sweet potatoes); indoles (broccoli); isothiocyanates (Brussels sprouts).

Those are just some of the reasons why it is so important to eat your red, orange, yellow, green, blue/purple, and white fruits and vegetables every day.

“And i want to meditate more often. Meditation is amazing, helps me clear my mind, helps me find myself, helps me to find out who i really am and what i can do for myself and for others. This is exactly what i need and i believe, in fact i know, that everyone should practice meditation every day.

But what makes me meditate every day? What motivates me?

The experiences that i have during my meditation sessions. Those of you who are meditating for a while now, know exactly what i’m talking about. For instance, earlier today, during my meditation session i had a great and liberating experience. As i was sitting there with absolutely no thought on my mind, it happend so naturally. I saw myself, in the past, closing a door. I instantly knew where i was and what i had to do. I knew that i needed to let go at that past experience so that i could move on now, in the present. And i was able to let it go completely. I made peace with that experience from my past, i felt exactly (in my body) where it was located and i just let it go. Maybe that’s why i’m sharing this with you here, now. I’m so happy that i was able to let it go and just move on. So intense and amazing in the same time! Maybe you’ll find my experience inspiring to you.

Meditation, among other things, brings mental and physical healing. Don’t neglect yourself.”

orange peel

sun/fire

love, divination, luck, money

In Winter, it’s good to keep orange peel to remind you of the warmth and brightness of the sun, so often forgot during dark & rainy days. Smell it daily to keep the sun in your soul.
